Have you ever wondered where the expression “the power of 3″ comes from? or things happen in 3′s? Good or bad it seems to happen …. A owl hooting 3 times is bad luck … Seeing 3 butterflies together is bad luck … Sneezing 3 times before breakfast brings good luck …. Meeting 3 sheep is good luck. I went looking on the net (my encyclopedia of choice) and was amazed at the number of different old wives tales containing the number 3. I guess if sheep could talk I could possibly meet 3 of them at a time. What if a owl hooted 4 times but you only heard the last 3 … would you be sitting waiting for something bad to happen so it does? Anyway I want to share a little story with you … On Tuesday of this week I woke up to a normal day and went to work. Things were going good. I had just picked up some ink for my lazer printer and had some print jobs to get out so I was feeling good about life. Then my printer died. Well it is fixable! This happened at about 5 o’clock … someone was telling me not to work late that night. So I came home to find out the Dan’s truck had broke down and he couldn’t use it to work. Well that’s two things We still had his back up truck. Well he got in it started it up and put it in 4WD to move it … (it was packed in snow) when BAM the transfer case went on the white truck. Well there is 3 bad things that happened in a row … or was it good luck because it could have been worse … instead of material possessions dying … it could have been human! Anyway … when Dan told me his white truck wasn’t going to work either I gave a sigh of relief not because 3 bad things happened but because it could have been worse. I think we hear these superstitions all of our life and thet sit at the back of our mind and we come up with ways to make them come true. So 3 things broke down for us last Tuesday but if the superstition had been things happen in 4′s. I might have remembered that I broke my fingernail or a glass as well that day and there you have it 4 things. Am I rambling yet. Anyway give me your thoughts

One of the reasons I’e heard as to why things happen in 3s or that 3′s are considered good luck actually stems of the trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It’s a pattern that is found in older literature, and I have no doubt that some part of our common superstition that things in 3s are good does come from this notion.
